Sustainability Statement for Holywell House

At Holywell House, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact while respecting the character and heritage of our Victorian building. Though the property is subject to restrictions that limit major alterations, we have taken several steps to improve sustainability:

Energy Efficiency: We have secondary double glazing which vastly reduces outside sounds. enhanced thermal insulation of the walls and floor cavities to improve energy efficiency while maintaining the integrity of the building’s original features.

Local Sourcing: All of our food is sourced from our local award winning market, within a ten minute walk (Thursdays and Saturdays), ensuring freshness and supporting local farmers and other suppliers.

Reduce and Recycle  At Holywell House, reducing waste and maximising recycling are key parts of our sustainability efforts. We minimise food waste by cooking breakfast to order and using only what is needed. Additionally, we actively recycle wherever possible, including paper, plastics, glass, and kitchen waste. We encourage our guests to join us in these efforts by providing recycling bins in the guest areas and minimising single-use products throughout the property. Our focus is on creating a low-waste environment while maintaining a high standard of comfort for our guests.

Sustainable Partnerships: We prioritise working with local partners for all our purchasing needs, reinforcing our commitment to supporting local businesses and minimising our carbon footprint.

In addition to our environmental efforts, we take pride in our strong ties to the community. Both owners play active roles in local charitable and community organizations, contributing to the well-being of the area and fostering a sense of shared responsibility.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable, environmentally conscious stay while celebrating the history and community of our surroundings.
